‘16 CASES. 16 CONTAMINATED SITES, EACH WITH ITS OWN STORY, WHERE HISTORY HAS LEFT ITS MARK. JUST A SMALL SELECTION FROM DOZENS OF PROJECTS IN WHICH DEME HAS UNDERTAKEN ENVIRONMENTAL SCHEMES ENCOMPASSING REMEDIATION AND REDEVELOPMENT. WHERE WE CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS A NEW, SUSTAINABLE FUTURE. WE STRONGLY BELIEVE IN TURNING CHALLENGES INTO OPPORTUNITIES. THAT’S WHY WE ARE CONTINUALLY LOOKING FOR WAYS TO APPLY OUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE IN OTHER ACTIVITIES, EXPLORE NEW HORIZONS AND ENHANCE OUR PORTFOLIO WITH EXPANSIVE SOLUTIONS. CREATING LAND FOR THE FUTURE.’
― Proactive development of brownfield sites
Our vision of a sustainable future is perfectly reflected in the development of brownfield sites. Here we take a strong proactive role in identifying and developing potential regeneration projects, together with our development partners. We can offer a range of integrated solutions, including the remediation of contaminated soil and rivers and the treatment of soil and dredging spoils.
― Full service
We have all the know-how, infrastructure and economic capacity in house to carry out in-depth preliminary investigations. Combined with our experience in aligning remediation works with redevelopment programmes, this opens up a range of possibilities tailored to the client. A common thread in our approach is that we take away all the hassle for our clients, in full transparency, so that they can look to the future without any distractions.
DEME is also involved in the development of innovative, sustainable projects. In this regard, we play a pioneering role in making sites sustainable and offer support in setting up strategic processes that help achieve climate-neutral business parks.
― On-site soil remediation and mobile soil remediation installations
DEME has a network of more than 15 soil processing and sediment recycling centres at strategic locations in Belgium, the Netherlands and Northern France, the largest of which can process up to 400,000 tonnes a year. We also offer clients the flexibility of mobile treatment installations. We have designed and built a number of mobile soil washing and recycling systems that can be used worldwide for the on-site treatment and recycling of contaminated soil. Our capacity to deploy these on sites saves clients a lot of unnecessary soil transport and removal costs.
‘DEME is first and foremost a driven partner that listens to the ambitions of the client and then, in an atmosphere of constructive collaboration, realises customised projects, down to the smallest detail.’
― Contaminated ground water and drainage water
Soil remediation projects are often linked to the remediation of ground water and drainage water. Temporary and mobile water treatment plants are available for short-term drainage or soil remediation works, while permanent water treatment plants can be designed for long-term projects. We have built up a wealth of knowledge and specific expertise in tackling heavily contaminated and difficult to treat water and leachate.
― Customised work
Our various soil and sludge treatment technologies include bioremediation, physico-chemical cleaning, thermal treatment, sludge draining via lagooning, filter presses or belt filter presses, stabilisation and immobilisation. We also have experience in on-site capping, where waste is safely encapsulated on-site. This broad portfolio of specialist capability allows us to offer clients a customised solution in which different techniques can be used in combination. The R&D department of the DEME Research Centre draws on its expertise to make the impossible possible.
― A Sustainable Future
DEME strives to minimise the environmental impact of its activities. We aim to contribute to the preservation of ecosystems, for example by integrating nature-inspired designs into our project engineering.
― Realising ambitions
As a sustainable business, we prioritise partnerships with stakeholders that are focused on sustainable R&D, and we embrace projects that act as leverage for the global energy transition, the circular economy and the environment.
